West Columbia sits on the Congaree just below the confluence of the Saluda and Broad, directly across the river from downtown Columbia. In October 2015 the flooding along this stretch breached the embankment of the Columbia canal, the 3.1 mile system supplying the city’s drinking water, after debris prevented the headgates from closing.
That event is a useful reminder of what river flooding does beyond the water itself. It takes out infrastructure. Properties here can face water intrusion at the same time as disrupted utilities, which complicates drying: mechanical dehumidification needs power, and a job that cannot start promptly is a job that gets more expensive.
Because the water comes from the river rather than a pipe, it is handled as contaminated. Expect more material removed than dried, thorough sanitizing, and a separate insurance conversation, since rising water generally requires flood coverage rather than a standard policy.
Restoration professionals serving West Columbia handle emergency water extraction, flood damage restoration, contaminated water cleanup, structural drying and dehumidification, and mold remediation. Call for emergency response: (803) 555-0100
